Dear Reader, please subscribe to the pc month RSS feed.

I have DSL internet conenction and have Linksys AG241 DSL Router. I have one public IP address assigned to me on my DSL account from ISP.
in router i have defined port forwarding for accessing one PC remotely, also IP address of PC is specified in router, the port defined is 3389 which is the port for remote access. this PC is having private IP 192.168.0.11, now when i enter my public IP from my home using windows remote access I am able to reach to my PC in office. this is fine

when i specified another private for another PC in my office, i again specified the same 3389 port for remote access, now this time when i tried to access my 2nd PC I could not but yes i still can access my first PC with address 192.168.0.11, I would like to know why it is like that, is it possible to define more then one PC in router port forwarding for remote access so that in case i need to access other PC i can do that or there is limitation that with one Public address i can only access PC?

You need to forward different external ports for each machine, the private port can then be the same. Say 3389 for 1 and 3388 for the other, both pointing to 3389 internally. You then need to call the port 3388 for the second machine.

This is possible. The reason it isn’t working now is because you can’t forward the same port for two computers if the connection is coming in instead of going out. Since you want an extra pc to be accessed by RDP, you need to change the listening port on the pc. Here is an article in the kb of MS. It will show you how to do just that.

Don’t forget to change the forwarded port on PC 2 to the new listening port.

Like the previous answers say, you need to forward different ports in your router and then call those specific ports when connecting.

    Settings for your router
    Set Route1 to Comp1(ie. 192.168.1.100)
    as: external port:3389 internal port:3389

    Set Route2 to Comp2(ie. 192.168.1.101)
    as: external port:3388 internal port:3389

Then when you call from the outside if your external ip is “55.55.55.55″, enter that like regular to access your first computer. This is the same thing as saying “55.55.55.55:3389″ because that is the default port for this type of connection. To connect to #2 you will need to specify what address AND port you are going to call for #2 so to access #2 we are going to call the port that was forwarded to it “55.55.55.55:3388″

An easier way to do this would be to RDP into the one machine you currently have access to, and from that machine, RDP into the other one using the 192.168.x.x IP address.

Less configuration/registry hacking that way. :-)

I go for what whitebox says.

That’s what I do from one building I connect to the server at another building (because it’s two separate networks - don’t ask I didn’t set them up.) anyway it works fine.
The only thing I hate about RDP is that you can’t control Win2K machines.
